Get Out and Vote

I don't care who you vote for.

A few of my friends from my hometown who are in school with me right now were discussing the upcoming election.

With so much on the line, the only thing that I can say is that if you are breathing and registered to vote, then you need to do so.

I can say what everyone else has said: it is critical to our democracy that everyone goes and makes their voices heard. Sure, if you live in a bleeding red state and vote for Obama, it won't make a visible difference, but your opinion will be counted, and that's worth a whole lot.

If for no other reason than to send a message. If you are in a blue state and vote for McCain, then you are still letting your choice be known.

Because of the electoral college, it's not a popular vote, but still, every vote is worth something.

Suppose you live in a blue state, but prefer McCain. You think that since everyone else will vote for Obama, your voice doesn't matter. Consider that everyone else in your shoes is probably thinking the same thing. That's not good. That apathy spawns all sorts of undesirable things, but that's a post for later.

We have already seen record turnouts for absentee and early voting. As Americans, let us show other nations how it's done. Voting is a privilege, but as a member of society, it is also your solemn responsibility. An informed and voting body politic is the necessary cornerstone for any democracy.

Any one that lasts, that is.
